Article reviews an energy efficient aluminum holding furnace that reduces operating and maintenance costs as well as energy costs. These electrically heated units feature temperature control within one percent of the programmed temperature, are heavily insulated to reduce heat loss and, in terms of energy savings alone, pay back their installation costs in 12 to 18 months. Other features involve construction innovations that permit speedy replacement of furnace liners, and the use of new nonwetting refractories.
